Tulsa’s Palace Cafe on Cherry Street

Due to holidays and religious observances, Amore Morso took a little break the last month. The hiatus only served to make everyone that much more excited about reuniting and sharing some good food to go along with good conversation.

This week we met at The Palace Cafe on Cherry Street. Over the past few years, Cherry Street has grown into a trendy, artsy type of environment, boasting a mix between sophisticated pallets and farmer’s markets. But of course, good recipes have to start with good food, and The Palace Cafe has got both of these covered.

Now, usually I like to give a little history of the restaurant, but this time, I’m going to differ to the words of the owner/chef himself. I read with delight the history of this exceptional little restaurant here. The chef writes almost as well as he cooks!

Besides the elegance, the delicious food, and the great service, we all enjoyed catching up. Larry’s daughter Megan popped in to surprise Kim, and I couldn’t get the camera going fast enough to catch the surprised look in Kim’s face. We also sadly said good-bye to Ray and his lovely wife Mary, who are moving up Chicago-way. Ray will still come back for business occasionally, but their stellar presence with be sorely missed.

Now, food.

I ate something called the Midtown Light. It was fish served on a bed of wilted beet leaves, over red rice, with a very light lemon sauce drizzled over it. It was delicious! The menu was the perfect size for an easy choice, and I didn’t see many left-overs when we all exited the establishment. That has got to mean everyone enjoyed their food.

The desserts followed, and I must admit, I rather somewhat expected them to be inferior to the food we’d just eaten. In my experience, the better the entrees are, the less seems to go into the desserts. I was wrong. They were scrumptious.

Our server was Eva, and she was continually busy, so I was only able to grab a quick shot of her as she bustled about. I promised her that if it wasn’t flattering, and I couldn’t fix it, I wouldn’t post it, and I’m sorry to say, I couldn’t get it where I think she’d have been comfortable with it. I’m sorry, Eva! It’s too bad, really. She was sweet girl.

And now, the desserts!

Kilkenny’s Irish Pub – 12 Desserts of Christmas

This week, Amore Morso was treated to the 12 Desserts of Christmas hosted by Kilkenny‘s Irish Pub. You can see all of the wonderful choices this Tulsa favorite spot has to offer by visiting their website at Kilkenny’s Irish Pub. Here is their information should you want to try them out:

I personally love everything I’ve ever eaten at this restaurant, but I have to say that my favorite entree is their Corned Beef and Cabbage. It is about as Irish as they come, and since I, too, am very Irish, it is a classic I dearly love. But of course, Amore Morso is about the desserts, and we had a ton of them to choose from. We had excellent service provided by John Burton. There were a lot of us, but he made his job look easy!

Michael V’s

Michael V. – owner and chef, makes all of his desserts fresh daily, which means they have a unique, exceptional taste.  The FRESHNESS is something you’ll be able to taste and enjoy each time you dine at Michael V’s.  Just order all 9 or 10 desserts each meal, like I do, and you’ll really enjoy your dining experience at Michael V’s.  By the way, the entrees are excellent as well.

Something To Talk About — Michael V’s in Tulsa

I am the newest member of Amore Morso, so I may not be qualified to really compare the desserts of multitudes of restaurants. But I’m going to go there anyways.

Michael V“s is my absolute favorite by far! 🙂

The club congregated yesterday at Michael V’s. Evidently, they had all been there before, but I had never eaten at this restaurant. I’d heard about it in passing occasionally over the last few years I’ve lived in Tulsa, but had never ventured out to try it.   However, while we were waiting for the food, the other members assured me that this place was notorious for serving absolutely delicious food. Now, I could just kick myself.

We’re kind here with the shortcomings of the people who welcome us in their restaurants, but there is no need this time at all. The service was beyond excellent, the chef, Michael Minden, visited our table, and the food came out hot and so fresh! The desserts were beautiful and just melted in your mouth. And as if that wasn’t enough, Chef Michael returned himself to our table to see if we were enjoying his creations. Of course, if you’re as talented as this chef, there is no need to hide in the kitchen.

Meet my new favorite chef — Chef Michael Minden

Meet Jennifer, our server. When she was describing the different specials to us, we were actually mesmerized to the point that we almost couldn’t choose just one!

Jennifer, our server, never skipped a beat taking care of us. She was pleasant, kind, funny, and incredibly good at her job. I paid attention to how many tables she was taking care of, and I have to say, I’m impressed with her ability to multi-task. She even took a minute to go over the pictures of the desserts with me, and let me take her picture.

Now for the real reason we were there. Desserts! Here are the pictures of the desserts Chef Michael prepared for us. As added fun, I’ve included a poll at the end of this article for you to vote on your favorites. It doesn’t matter at all if you were with us, feel free to vote for whichever dessert you’ve enjoyed at Michael V’s.

The Amore Morso club would like to thank Chef Michael and his wonderful staff for welcoming us into their restaurant and treating us so well. You’re food was delicious, and we felt like honored guests! Thanks to Jennifer, too, who was accommodating, patient, and took very good care of us.

Michael V’s is located at 8222 E. 103rd Ave, Ste 137, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Their phone number is (918) 369-0310. Trust me. Eat here!

If you’ve ever eaten one of these desserts, which one was your favorite?

Thank you for dropping by!

Amore Morso! Visits Lucky’s

Yesterday, the Amore Morso! club visited Lucky’s Restaurant on 15th street. Now, primarily, the club visits local restaurants and enjoys their desserts, but we also eat an entree, and I have to say that I’m glad we do. I myself had the Cuban Sandwich, and it was absolutely delicious. The service by Leslie was perfect, and I have to say I really enjoyed myself.

Leslie

Now, unfortunately, I lost the paper that I wrote down the names of the desserts. It got stuck to the moisture of the Coke I was drinking, and I am completely unable to read the ink mess that was created, but I think you’ll find that the pictures alone are worth a thousand words anyways.

I know we all enjoyed our time together, the food was fantastic, and the desserts were scrumptious.  So the Amore Morso! club highly recommends Lucky’s Restaurant.

It is located at 1536 E. 15th Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74120. Their phone number is 918-592-5825.

Thank you, Lucky’s for taking such good care of us!

The Cheesecake Factory

My first time joining the crew of the Amore Morso club was for a lunch time service at The Cheesecake Factory earlier this week. Believe it or not, I’d never eaten anything at this restaurant but cheesecake, and I was delightfully surprised that the chicken and shrimp gumbo that I ordered was absolutely delicious. But, it was the dessert that reigned supreme. I’m beginning to think there is nothing at all that can be done to a cheesecake that could ruin it.

Because Oklahoma is suffering from a record heat this summer, no one could think of anything better than to sit in the air conditioning and eat a slice of cheesecake and enjoy the friendly banter of friends. I’d just met Larry the week before, and this was my first time meeting Michelle. It was easy to fall in love with her optimism, her easy humor, and her happy nature. Coupled with Larry’s almost unbelievable hospitality and generosity, I found the whole experience relaxing and comfortable. I thought I’d share some of the desserts that we enjoyed during our visit.

Larry ordered the Pineapple Upside-Down Cake Cheesecake:

Michelle ordered her favorite, the Duece de Luce Cheesecake, which she insists is the best one ever:

Kim ordered the Chocolate Coconut Creme Cheesecake. She insists it tastes just like a Mounds bar:

And then there was my choice. I chose the Banana Cream Cheesecake, and frankly, I’m thinking I made the best choice. Good Lord in Heaven. That is the best cheesecake I’ve ever eaten!

If you are a dessert lover in the Tulsa area, why don’t you join us? Good company and good desserts!
